As every year, since 2011, the date of the inauguration of the monument of the Memorial of Rebecq, we organized the ceremony of solemn tribute dedicated to the civil victims and the servicemen of the tragedy arisen on May 28th, 1944, in our village.
This year, it was characterized by the fact that we celebrated to the day the anniversary of seventy the years of the crash of Lancaster of the 550 Squadron R.A.F. North Killingholme
and that for this occasion, we wished to unite in our tribute five other crews of 550 fallen in Belgium.
It also is to note that the Belgian Nation honored these men and these women who so much gave for our current freedom. Mister Flahaut, President of the House of Representatives and Minister of State
had wished that it can be made.
If, during his speech, the President of the AMR reminded the importance of the work of memory executed by the association, he emphasized the duty which have the young people to remember these
things and especially, in the fact that us, the adults, taught them what took place, 70 years ago, why it began and how it ended.
On the other hand, the President of the Chamber warned us against the progress which those realize who have for thesis the negation of the facts of which we remembered ourselves on May 28th, and
the political vision of which is the destruction of the democracy so dearly acquired in which the free nations live. He warned us against these currents of thoughts which put in real danger
institutions so national as international.
A lot of people attended to the ceremony, a numerous public came. The organizers are anxious to thank all those who by their intervention and their presence allowed that this moment of memory could be for each a solemn act of Memory.
Thanks to the Colonel Colmant, Military Commander of Walloon Brabant and to the Commander Lebrun, Chief of the Protocol of the Military Command of the Province for their precious support and how
much effective!
Thanks to organizations and to patriotic associations which answered to our appeal and also the standard bearers whom came in number.
Thanks to the pupils of the schools of Rebecq. Finally, thanks to everyone those who gave of their time and of their energy so that this celebration was a success.
